Through reacting to existing spatial situations and carefully considering their peculiarities, he adds to existing structures using drywall — sometimes continuing the former geometric logic, sometimes breaking it — and utilizes its different finishing options to blur the perception of what is front and back, inside and outside.
Thus, the sculptures are clearly inserted as a new layer to alter the narrative of the given context. Yet, to the beholder, it is not always obvious what is added and what already existed in the first place. Only by moving through and around the sculpture, some of it reveals itself while some stays camouflaged. The resulting spatial ambiguity of function, meaning, and perception is central to his works.
Till Röttjer has exhibited at Kunstverein Jena, Schiller-Museum Weimar, Tokyo University of the Arts (東京藝大学) Geidai (芸大), during the Rundgang der Spinnerei Galerien Leipzig, and at Essl Museum among others.
As part of his ongoing endeavors into new forms of collaborative artistic practices, he built An Introspective Monument and initiated, facilitated, and curated various collaborative projects.
In 2024, he received a Diploma in Fine Arts from Bauhaus-University Weimar where he studied in the class for Sculpture, Object, Installation with Prof. Björn Dahlem. Earlier, he earned a Master Craftsman Certificate in Carpentry from the Chamber of Crafts Leipzig in 2016 and a Journeyman Certificate in Carpentry from the Chamber of Crafts Karlsruhe in 2005.
He lives and works in Berlin and Ilmtal-Weinstraße, Germany.
